Beavis and Butt-Head Do America
As a young man, I have a lot of ambition, but I can see why that is hard for us. The rest of the world is ran by the last generation of baby boomers and once their time has passed, they have to hand over their lives to us. Not literally, but more as in the life of work, home and family. Many of them are afraid to relax because we’re not as experienced and haven’t seen what the real world is really like. What I ask is for those baby boomers to think about back when they were our age. Life is never easy, but if they want to see a better future, they have to eventually let go of the reigns and let us run everything.
Another reason that older adults don’t trust us is because they assume that many young men, especially uneducated, are nothing but couch potatoes. Maybe they have been watching too much Beavis and Butt-Head.
Becoming one of MTV’s biggest hits, Beavis and Butt-Head revolve around the antics of two of the world’s dumbest teenagers. All they do is sit on their couch, critique music videos, and think about women. No matter what they do, they remain selfless to that fact they never accomplish anything. With the right mind, anyone can see why the show works; it’s well written. Now a movie would be a bigger challenge. Most of the shorts are a few minutes long and most of their content is reviewing music videos of the nineties.
Instead of an hour and a half review, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America is a crazy adventure that takes these two boys across the Unites States. Mike Judge, who also made Office Space and King of the Hill, carefully wrote a very funny road trip movie that takes advantage of every stupid situation.
I already know the movie’s going to be funny by the opening sequence. Beavis and Butt-Head (both played by Mike Judge) wake up to realize that something’s wrong. The movie tries to help both boys realize that their TV is stolen. While looking for a new one, they run into an alcoholic deadbeat, Muddy (played by Bruce Willis) who hires them to kill his wife in Las Vegas. The guys mistake the killing for a situation to score with the wife, they board the next plane expecting the best trip of their lives. Another misunderstanding leads them to become the most wanted men in America, being followed around by federal agents (played by Robert Stack and Greg Kinnear).
This movie is a celebration of that couch potato culture. For most young men, this is the easiest part of their lives, so Beavis and Butt-Head Do America is very relatable. Like the show, the writing makes these guys so stupid, that you can’t help but laughing at all of their commentaries of the American spirit, whether it’s their visit to Yellowstone National park or their walking around the White House.
I’ll give this four and a half Cornholio’s out of five. You don’t have to know anything about the TV series to enjoy the movie. Beavis and Butt-Head may not be an accurate picture of young adults, but it’s a humorous satire.
